Krissy, the Bokeh literally means 'to blur'. We typically use the bokeh with the circles because it looks really awesome. But it is any picture where you have your focus on one object and the background / foreground is blurred.
ReplyDeletespeaking of the circles, have you all seen the technique where you can manipulate the shape of the circles by using a mask on your lens? Pretty fun, and quite difficult to do, i might add.
ReplyDeleteCheck this out: http://www.geekologie.com/2009/08/bokeh_filter_turns_light_blurs.php
I thought the same thing Krissy.
ReplyDeleteLuke that should be one of our Challenge #2 things!! I googled and found a DIY one, so we don't have to buy the kits. That would be fun!!
ReplyDeleteI know that's the technical definition, but I think a basic blur just creates depth of field. So I'm going to say you all took the easy way out except for Jon H.
ReplyDeletehahahah you tell em krissy!
ReplyDeletebut, even if you have lights in the bokeh, it's still just a basic blur...just with lights and circles, no different than a fret board. I take no easy ways!
ReplyDeleteok, one more comment.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Tara, i see it has been added to the ideas list.
Another challenge idea is to create an image that emulates a specific famous photographer like Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, Philippe Halsman, Andy Warhol, etc (you can see my preference is for dead photographers).
We can always spin it to either try and re-create one of their famous images, or make our own original shot with their "influence" or whatever.

ReplyDeleteI made my own cover for my lens with a little heart and it didn't work out for me but I liked trying it. The blur with the bokeh to me is just shallow depth of field.
ReplyDeleteI do like the idea of re creating or using a photographers influence or style for a photo.
